Summary of the PAS

The Propensity for Abusiveness Scale (PAS) is an empirically derived 29 item self report scale that was developed by comparing batterers' responses on a variety of measures with their partners' reports of abuse. The most predictive items were selected and then tested in validation studies in other groups. The PAS correctly identified men high vs. low in abusiveness 82.2% of the time. Its' items are not "reactive"; that is they do not appear to be about abuse or abuse related. It is usually administered along with a social desirability scale such as the Balanced Inventory of Desirable Responding.

Disclaimer for Use of the PAS

Research use of the PAS is free providing the researcher agrees to provide demographics on their sample group, means and standard deviations for the PAS scores obtained and correlations of the PAS to other scales they used.
